Foundation for Access to Rights - FAR is a non-governmental organization that aims:

  • The establishment of effective mechanisms to guarantee access to rights in practice and effective protection against arbitrary deprivation of rights.
  • To Increase  institutional and public awareness, sensitivity and commitment in the need to address systemic problems in access to basic human rights in Bulgaria.
  • The development of a favourable legislative environment in line with European and International standards for the protection of human rights and the establishment of best practices in access to rights.

FAR's main activities are legal aid, advocacy, research and sharing knowledge. 

FAR provides services in Sofia, Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna, Dobrich. Our teams in each city consists of an attorney and cultural mediator which visit refugees.

Legal aid for children asylum-seekers

Legal aid for children who are on their own in Bulgaria and unaccompanied by parents:

  • Legal information and one-on-one counseling with a lawyer about applying for asylum, detention orders, conditions in the reception centers, and Dublin procedures.
  • Assistance in preparing appeals of denied asylum applications, detention orders, and Dublin procedural decisions.
  • Representation in court on appeals of denied asylum applications, detention orders, and Dublin procedural decisions.
  • Legal assistance if you applied for asylum, but your application was not registered and you are not being treated as an asylum-seeker (or feel pressured to return to your country of origin).
  • Referrals to other services.

Legal aid for survivors of torture

  • Legal information and one-on-one counseling with a lawyer about applying for asylum, detention orders, conditions in the reception centers, and Dublin procedures.
  • Assistance with asylum applications.
  • Assistance in preparing appeals of denied asylum applications, detention orders, and Dublin procedural decisions.
  • Representation in court on appeals of denied asylum applications, detention orders, and Dublin procedural decisions.
  • Legal assistance if you applied for asylum, but your application was not registered and you are not being treated as an asylum-seeker (or feel pressured to return to your country of origin).

Legal aid for stateless people

You are considered "stateless" if you do not have citizenship in any country.

FAR provides legal aid for stateless people:

  • Legal aid for stateless people in detention, or at risk of being detained.
  • Assistance preparing and submitting applications for legal recognition in Bulgaria that you are stateless.
  • Assistance preparing appeals of detention orders.
  • Representation in court on appeals of detention orders.

You can call from 9 am to 6 pm on every working day, and a specialist will listen to you, answer your question, or guide you to information already available on our platform refugeelight.bg. If necessary, you will also be referred to a member of FAR’s legal team for a consultation.
