The Organization of Bulgarian Scouts is a voluntary, non-governmental, non-political, non-military educational organization.

Scouting's mission is to contribute to the education and spiritual growth of young people and, through a humane value system based on the promise and the law of the Scout, to help build a better world in which people can achieve their aspirations and play a creative role in the development of society. Scouting aims to help young people develop their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

UNICEF Bulgaria and the Organization of Bulgarian Scouts (OBS) are partnering to help children and youth arriving from Ukraine and Bulgarian children and youth from vulnerable groups. 

The Skills4Life project supports children and young people in Bulgaria to build 21st century skills, leadership skills and an understanding of climate change through the application of the Scouting method for non-formal education.

The project is being implemented in 2023 in two main directions:

  • Integration and building key skills in children and youth fleeing military conflicts and children and youth from local vulnerable groups - scout leader education, camps for children and informal meetings are envisaged to strengthen social integration and community cohesion through friendship building, learning and fun.
  • Developing young leaders against climate change - trainings are planned to raise young people's awareness of the UN Global Development Goals, combating climate change and a host of youth initiatives to focus on conservation.

The groups are divided by age

  • Wolves aged 7-11 years
  • Scouts - 11-15 years
  • Venturers - 15- 18 years
  • Rovers - 18 - 26 years
  • Scouts - adult volunteers

Skills4Life project activities are free for participants, some other activities have a fee covering accommodation, transport and food.

Most of the activities take place outdoors at weekends.
