The currency in Bulgaria (BGN) is the Bulgarian lev or leva (plural). You can recognize it by the abbrеviation “лв.” in Bulgarian. The lev is divided in 100 “stotinki”. The levs are available predominantly as banknotes and the stotinki – only as coins.

Bulgaria is not part of the eurozone and it is not common to pay with euros in Bulgaria.

Banknotes and coins

Bulgarian banknotes are available in the value of 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 leva. Coins are available in the value of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 stotinki and also 1 and 2 leva. Note that 100 stotinki equals 1 lev.
