Legalization

Legalization of documents is the process of certification of the authenticity of documents which have been issued to you by the relevant bodies in your country. Because there is an agreement between Bulgaria and the Ukraine for the legalization of documents issued by the relevant bodies in Ukraine, the only thing required is the official translation of your documents and a verification of the signature of the translator by a notary.

Recognition of educational qualifications

For recognition of a completed post-secondary education (grades 7- 12) or of a professional qualification obtained in school, one must apply at their local Regional Department of Education (RDE) office. For recognition of a completed primary or secondary education (grades 1 – 6) the application is submitted at the school where you or your child will continue their education. The following documents are needed to do so:

  2. legalized original document for a completed education and/or professional qualification
  3. a legalized original document in which all rights given to you by the school and/or the professional qualification are listed, if such information is not already provided in the diploma obtained

If you would like for both a completed educational stage and a professional qualification to be recognized, you must pay 35 Leva.

If the recognition of documents is required for children under the age of 16 (including) a fee payment is not required.

How long will the process take?

The deadline for issuance of a decision by the RDE committee is 1 month.

Recognition of a higher education diploma

For recognition of a diploma of higher education, the procedure depends on the purpose for recognition. In any case, you must legalize your diploma.

  • If you want to continue your education, you must contact the dean of the relevant higher education institution to which you would like to apply.
  • If you would like to practice a non-regulated profession (for example, IT specialist, beautician, hairdresser – you must contact your employer. If they require addition certification, you must contact the National center for information and documentation (NCFID)

Recognition of professional qualifications

Recognition of professional qualification depends on whether your profession is regulated.

If your profession is unregulated, it does not require recognizing. Your employer can request certification from NCFID, but it is not mandatory.

Regulated are such professions which carry specific importance for society and because of this the state more closely controls how and who practices their profession. For these, it is explicitly required to have obtained a diploma or any other certificate of education.

If your profession falls in the category of regulated professions, the recognition happens in accordance to the specific requirements for that profession, which are defined by the different governmental bodies. Each profession is specific for itself.
